We’ve been hoodwinked.

When American media was obsessing about the health care reform bill that President Obama was trying to push through a recalcitrant congress, it utterly failed to give the American people a straight story.   Instead we got the usual talking heads routine from pundits with impressive credentials but who hadn’t much ability to present and analyze facts without bias.  The result of this public truthiness was to convince a gullible public and their elected representatives that an attenuated health care reform bill full of compromises was better than nothing.  Yes, some good things were allowed to pass such as extending the length of time that young adults could remain on their parent’s health plan, but overall, this bill gives insurance companies a heads-up and keeps them doing business as usual.

Perhaps the best explanation of what happened is in the book Deadly Spin by Wendell Potter, an ex-insurance public relations executive whose conscience could no longer justify the lies and deceit of what he had done for the insurance companies for which he had worked for so many years.  If you’d like to know how egregiously these corporations behave, read this book.  If you don’t have the time or patience to read a whole book (as is true of so many busy people today), at least check out a summary or enter “universal health care America” into your search engine to get a better picture of what we are up against in trying to achieve a viable health care system for all our citizens.

  1. I hardly drop comments, but i did a few searching and wound up
here Accessible Health Care for All | Walking Through the Valley.

And I actually do have 2 questions for you if you do not mind.
Is it just me or does it look like a few of these responses come across like
they are written by brain dead people? 😛 And, if you are writing at other places, I would like to keep
up with everything new you have to post. Would you make a list of
every one of all your shared pages like your linkedin profile, Facebook
    page or twitter feed?
